Managing Your Backups using JetBackup in CPanel

JetBackup is a renowned backup solution that integrates flawlessly with cPanel, and we’re delighted to offer it complimentary to all our clients. Whether you’re a sole website operator or a reseller, JetBackup guarantees the safe backup of your data, ensuring it’s readily available for restoration when necessary. In this guide, we’ll delve into its fundamental features and guide you on initiating your journey with JetBackup for cPanel.

JetBackup stands as an all-encompassing tool designed for the meticulous management of various components of your hosting account. With its intuitive interface, not only can you effortlessly generate and oversee backups, but you can also download and reinstate them whenever required. This encompasses a wide range of elements, from DNS Records, Email accounts, and Files to Databases, Cron Jobs, and indeed, the entirety of your hosting account. To ensure optimal use of your hosting services and maintain a robust safeguard of your data, understanding how to adeptly manage these backups in cPanel with JetBackup is paramount. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process, ensuring you’re well-equipped to capitalise on JetBackup’s potential.

Using cPanel:

Users can restore their backups directly from their cPanel account.

  • Step 1: Log into cPanel.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the ‘JetBackup’ section.
  • Step 3: Select the desired backup type.
  • Step 4: Choose the backup point you wish to restore.
  • Step 5: Click ‘Restore’ and confirm.

Restoration Process:

Apart from the “Files Backups”, all other backup choices adhere to a similar procedure. Within the backup page, you’ll encounter the “Restore” option to revert your hosting account using the backup, or “Generate Download” to produce a zipped file ready for download.

To avoid misuse and superfluous storage consumption, compressed files should be placed in a download queue, which will momentarily make the backup accessible for download.

You can track the progress of either the restoration or generation process on the “Queue” page.

Backup Management Options:

Full Backups:

Encompassing the entirety of the hosting account, it consolidates all other options into a singular backup file, ready for restoration or download.

File Backups:

Imagine a scenario where your website is compromised with malicious code in a particular file, or perhaps an essential file was inadvertently deleted during routine maintenance. Instead of resorting to a complete website, folder, or hosting account restoration, the “File Backups” feature is your saviour. It grants you the flexibility to choose and reinstate multiple folders or files through a “File Manager”.

The “File Manager” initiates by presenting the home directory of the hosting account. From this vantage point, you can employ the checkbox to earmark the files and folders you wish to restore. Alternatively, simply click on a folder’s name to delve inside and view its contents.

After finalising your choices, click on “Restore Selected” to initiate the restoration procedure, or “Download Selected” if you wish to retrieve the chosen files or folders. You can track the progress of these actions on the “Queue” page.

Cron Job Backups:

To retrieve or reinstate the scheduled scripts or website calls configured on your hosting account.

DNS Zone Backups:

To Download or Restore the DNS Zone of a domain.

Database Backups:

To retrieve or reinstate the databases stored on your hosting account, you’ll be presented with a list of backups for each distinct database, each marked with varying times and dates, contingent on the server’s backup configuration.

Click “Restore” to reinstate the backup for the specific database, and select “Add to Restore Queue” to commence the restoration procedure.

Click “Generate Download” to produce a compressed file for retrieval, and then select “Add to Download Queue” to kick-start the process.

You can keep track of the processes’ progression through the “Queue” within JetBackup. Once the restoration is finished, it will display “Completed”. For the generation process, it will present both the “Download” option and the “Delete Download” choice, allowing you to remove the produced file.

Email Backups:

To retrieve or reinstate the email accounts, you’ll be presented with a list of backups for each distinct email address, each annotated with varying times and dates, based on the server’s backup setup.

Click “Restore” to reinstate the backup for the specific email account. Mark the checkbox to acknowledge the impending action and then select “Add to Restore Queue” to begin the restoration procedure.

Click “Generate Download” if you wish to download the backup, followed by “Add to Queue” to produce a compressed file that encapsulates the email account data, ready for download.

The progress of either the restoration or generation can be tracked on the “Queue” page within JetBackup.

Queue:

The Queue serves as a central hub to monitor the ongoing status of both download and restoration processes. By accessing the Queue, users can gain insights into each task’s progression, estimated completion times, and any potential alerts or notifications. This ensures transparency and allows users to effectively manage and time their actions within JetBackup.

Should you choose the option to produce a backup, once the file is entirely created, on the “Queue” page, two options will be available to you:

“Download” initiates the process of saving the file to your local device, while “Delete Download” serves to expunge it from the queue.

The Queue provides a centralised location for monitoring the progression of both download and restoration tasks.

Snapshots:

If you’re on the verge of implementing changes and wish to have a safety net in place, the Snapshots feature is your ally. It allows you to prompt the system to create a backup before any modifications are enacted. Simply click on “Create new Snapshot”, and this request will be channelled to the queue. Once the queue indicates that the process has reached the “Completed” status, you’re in the clear to confidently forge ahead with your planned adjustments. Using Snapshots not only provides peace of mind but also ensures that you have a fallback option, encapsulating the state of your system prior to the changes.

Settings:

Here, you’d set up your email address to receive notifications regarding the progress and updates of your backups in the Queue.

Within the framework of JetBackup, full backups emerge as a pivotal element of a stout data protection plan. Even though they command a greater allotment of both storage and time, their merit in delivering unwavering data safeguarding stands unmatched. For those utilising JetBackup, it’s prudent to weave these full backups into a more expansive backup paradigm that could embrace incremental or differential backups. Such an approach strikes an equilibrium between all-encompassing data defence and judicious resource utilisation.
